Carney Associates is one of Australia's longest established independent government relations consultancies.

Established by Stephen Carney in Canberra in 1979, Carney Associates has advised, supported and represented its clients in the Federal political arena for over 30 years.

The firm was set up by Stephen after he had served for three years as senior adviser to Ian Sinclair in the first term of the Fraser Government.

Carney Associates has won wide respect for its professionalism and success rate in client representation during the successive Fraser, Hawke-Keating, Howard, Rudd and Gillard, Rudd, Abbott and Turnbull governments over nearly forty years. At all times through these years of varying Coalition/Labor governments, we have enjoyed excellent professional and often personal relations with the leading government and opposition figures of the day.

The firm has established itself as a leading strategic adviser in a number of key portfolio and departmental areas, with particular expertise in defence policy and industry, health and medical research, tertiary education, transport and infrastructure. The firm also has past and current client assignments dealing with applications for foreign investment approvals in Australia.

We have quite deliberately kept Carney Associates at ‘boutique’ size as this allows clients to be assured that our principals and senior advisers are jointly managing their case interests.
